About Our Charity
In cities many children reside at roadsides, grow begging in chowks (square), sorting things from public garbage bins, rag picking or stealing small things. Often these children are used by the criminal world. They provide different types of drugs and make the children addicted to these drugs. In the state of addiction or in the greed of getting more drugs they are used for the different types of crimes in the society. Sometimes due to addictions and crime, they end their lives at young age or give birth to a new aimless generation to grow on roads and lead the same life as street animals.
Due to lack of proper care and shelter different kinds of exploitation of these children is an unavoidable part of their life. Due to drug abuse and crimes these children become a nuisance or headache for the society and country.
Some sensitive people came together to tackle this challenge of the society with the help and inspiration of some generous people of the society. They named this challenge Sarthak (a meaningful life ). Sarthak started its meaningful journey in June 2009.
Besides the Street children and children from vulnerable backgrounds Sarthak is also taking care of children of 'call girls' and the kids from red light areas. Some kids at Sarthak are also from disturbed families with poor backgrounds and both parents are engaged in polygamy, so the children of such parents are often neglected. Institutions like Sarthak are a solution for children with these types of background as well.
What Sarthak Does?
Dr. Anil Kudia realized that to change the life of these children it was necessary to change their surrounding atmosphere. These children grew up watching their mothers being severely addicted to alcohol who had multiple spouses. For these children, that is what life was. They were unaware of the world beyond the streets.
When Sarthak was established gaining faith and trust of the parents of our children was a big challenge. We waited patiently and after persistent efforts of 5 to 6 months were finally able to gain the trust of the children's parents. The initial steps of Sarthak began from the home of our founder Dr. Anil Kudia and the children resided there for a few months. As some time passed the number of children increased and so Sarthak had to rent a new flat at Handewadi.
There too the children stayed for a few months and due to some difficulties Sarthak had to shift to 2 more locations, Shewale Wadi and then at Urali Kanchan. With time the number of children kept on increasing. Sarthak now required a bigger space for the overall and holistic development of its children. Meanwhile incidences of children running away became frequent as there are many attractions and freedom in the outside world. Also we had to let some older children go as they had started harassing the younger ones. Unfortunately five out of the children who ran away, died due to over addiction and quarrels among the street people. So it was very essential to keep the children engrossed in something that they liked doing - playing.
Having in mind the overall and holistic development of the children Dr. Anil Kudia and his wife Mrs. Bharati Kudia donated their 50000 sq. ft. of land to 'Sarthak' and so Sarthak Seva Sangh set it's foot in Ambale, a village in the Purandar Taluka, Pune.
